What is a tree risk assessment?

A tree risk assessment is a detailed assessment by an arborist of the risk presented by a tree. It looks at the tree's condition and structure, and at what could be affected if it, or part of it, failed.

Options, not just a score

Tree risk assessments give tree owners options to reduce or eliminate the risk presented by the assessed tree, so you can weigh up retention, pruning or removal with confidence.

Tree Risk Assessment FAQs

Can't see your question? Call 0431 686 705.

When should I get a tree risk assessment?

When a tree near a home, building, road, car park or public area shows signs of decline, damage or structural concern, or when you are responsible for trees used by the public.

Who carries out the assessment?

A consulting arborist with an AQF Level 5 qualification. Level 5 arborists evaluate tree related risk, identify mitigation measures and help ensure public safety.

Does a risk assessment mean the tree has to come down?

No. The purpose is to give you options. Many risks can be reduced through pruning or other measures, and removal is only one possibility.

Is a risk assessment included in an arborist report?

Often, yes. A tree risk assessment is commonly part of our arboricultural reports.

Can you assess many trees across a site?

Yes. For larger sites we can combine risk assessment with a tree survey or inventory so trees are prioritised.
